Lifeguards
New Mexico School for the Blind and Visually Impaired is seeking applications for Lifeguards. Duties include: PE swimming classes, recreation program and may include other outside scheduled activities. Successful candidate must possess current lifeguard certification or be willing to acquire. This is a 9 month substitute position usually scheduled Tuesday and Thursday with approximately 10 to 12 hours per week. Applications will be accepted until filled.
Speech Therapist
New Mexico School for the Blind and Visually Impaired is seeking application for a Speech Therapist. The speech language therapist is responsible for all diagnostic services which include diagnosis of speech, language, and voice disorders and for implementation of therapeutic measures to students with visual impairments. BS degree or higher in Speech Therapy, eligible for New Mexico PED licensure is required. Background/experience in teaching students with visual/multiple impairments preferred. Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist
New Mexico School for the Blind and Visually Impaired (NMSBVI) is interested in hiring a Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS) to assist blind and visually impaired students achieve their greatest level of independence. Requirements include a Bachelor’s degree or higher, current ACVREP certification, and eligibility for O&M licensure from the New Mexico Public Education Department (PED). This is a full-time, 9-month position working on a residential campus with students ages 3-21, some of whom have multiple disabilities. Teacher for the Visually Impaired
The New Mexico School for the Blind and Visually Impaired is currently recruiting for a Teacher for the Visually Impaired as a Braille Instructor. This successful individual will have the flexibility in background and training to provide a comprehensive educational program to all grade level students with visual impairments, and multiple disabilities. Must hold Teacher of the Visually Impaired certification, and must possess or be eligible for NM Public Education Department licensure. Endorsement in Language Arts is preferred. Will be required to maintain Braille proficiency. Full‑time, 9-month contract for the 2023-2024 school year. Position open until filled.
Plant Operations Foreman
New Mexico School for the Blind and Visually Impaired is seeking applications for Plant Operations Foreman. Duties include: supervising all plant operations for NMSBVI grounds, physical plant, and buildings. Inspects buildings, grounds, and equipment and makes recommendations to Plant Operations Manager, coordinates maintenance work orders, responsible for the coordination and oversight of Public School Facility Authority requirements and directs workers engaged in ground maintenance activities as well as other departments. Journeyman license required and supervisory experience; or two to five years related experience and/or training. This is a 12-month year round position. Applications will be accepted until filled.

Duties include the ability to provide a comprehensive educational program to students K-12 with visual impairments and multiple disabilities. Bachelor’s degree or higher in Special Education and certification in Vision is preferred or must be willing to acquire. Must possess or be eligible for NM Public Education Department licensure. Substitute Teacher

Driver/Caregiver, Substitute
The New Mexico School for the Blind and Visually Impaired is recruiting for a substitute Driver/Caregiver. Background/experience in transporting or working with children with visual impairments and/or multiple disabilities is preferred. Required to assist with self-help routines with students. Driving will include routes to Gallup and Farmington on weekends. Good driving record required. This is a 9 month substitute position with extended runs on Fridays and Sundays and occasional Mondays. Early Childhood Classroom Teacher
The New Mexico School for the Blind and Visually Impaired Early Childhood Program is seeking an experienced and qualified teacher of the visually impaired (TVI) for our site-based preschool and kindergarten program in Albuquerque. Early Childhood experience is required. BA is required. Either a Special Education or Pre-K teacher license is required. TVI licensure is preferred or willing to acquire one is required. Teacher would be responsible for teaching, assessing and monitoring a classroom of VI and/or multiply impaired students. Will be required to become Braille proficient. Developmental Vision Specialist
The New Mexico School for the Blind and Visually Impaired Infant Toddler Program is seeking a Developmental Vision Specialist. This individual will provide family/home intervention services that support young children 0-3 years old with visual impairments/developmental delays. Collaboration and team work with the child’s family and therapy team is an intricate part of the job.
This position will serve primarily the Las Cruces and Southwestern areas of New Mexico. Must be eligible for a Developmental Specialist II or III license with the New Mexico FIT Program, must have obtained a BA or higher in Early Childhood, Special Education, Child Development, or related service provider, Teacher of the Visually Impaired or Orientation and Mobility certification and have experience working with young children who are blind or have visual impairments. Prefer MA level, bi‑lingual (English/Spanish); experience in home-based settings and studies in Visual Impairment or be willing to acquire. Will be required to become Braille proficient.
