The New Mexico School for the Blind and Visually Impaired is currently recruiting for an English Language Arts Teacher of the Visually Impaired. Duties include the ability to provide a comprehensive educational program to students 6-12 with visual impairments, which may include additional disabilities. Bachelor’s degree or higher with an endorsement in language arts is required and certification in vision is preferred or be willing to acquire. Must possess or be eligible for NM Public Education Department licensure. Will be required to become Braille proficient. This is a full-time, nine-month position for the remainder of the 2025–2026 school year, with a contract renewal for the 2026–2027 school year. Applications accepted until filled.

The New Mexico School for the Blind and Visually Impaired is currently recruiting for a Special Education Director. This individual will facilitate all IEPs for students currently attending the residential campus to ensure quality educational programming. Collaborates and coordinates with the Early Childhood Program around IEPs, goals, and special education requirements in order to promote consistency between campuses and within programs on each campus. Provides guidance and support to all staff as an expert in special education law and state and federal requirements. Serves as the supervisor for student support programs and as NMSBVI’s NOVA coordinator. Master’s degree in special education or related field and a minimum of five years’ experience providing services to special education students. Must have a thorough understanding of IDEA-B law. New Mexico School for the Blind and Visually Impaired is currently recruiting a full-time Medicaid Billing Clerk. This position is responsible for processing Medicaid billing, reviewing records, and performing reconciliations in accordance with state regulations. Candidates must be proficient in Microsoft Office and demonstrate strong attention to detail. The role requires solid problem-solving, customer service, and be able to work in a team environment. A high school diploma or GED is required for this position. Experience in medical billing and/or certification as a Certified Professional Biller or Coding Specialist is preferred. The campus Security Guard will safeguard NMSBVI property against fire, theft, vandalism, and illegal entry by performing duties including but not limited to: patrolling NMSBVI grounds and buildings, assisting and providing direct support to staff and students on grounds to and from NMSBVI buildings and campus locations, reporting suspicious persons on grounds and maintaining security logs and reports. This is a graveyard shift position with hours from 11:00 PM thru 7:00 AM, Sunday to Thursday. High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. The New Mexico School for the Blind and Visually Impaired is seeking applicants for the position of General Maintenance Technician/Groundskeeper. The selected candidate will be responsible for performing various aspects of facility maintenance and repair tasks, moving and lifting of furniture and equipment, maintenance of the swimming pool, and various groundskeeping duties. Plumbing experience preferred. Candidates should possess four to five years of relevant experience in a related field. This is a 12-month, hourly position. New Mexico School for the Blind and Visually Impaired (NMSBVI) is currently recruiting a Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS) to assist blind and visually impaired students achieve their greatest level of independence. Requirements include a Bachelor’s degree or higher, current ACVREP certification, and eligibility for O&M licensure from the New Mexico Public Education Department (PED). This is a full-time, 9-month position working on a residential campus with students ages 3-21, some of whom have multiple disabilities. Position available for the 26-27 school year. The New Mexico School for the Blind and Visually Impaired is currently recruiting for Registered Nurse, Substitutes. These individuals plan and implement health care services to visually and/or multiply impaired students. The ability to demonstrate current knowledge in professional issues in school nursing, school and community health, communicable disease control, health assessment, acute and chronic health conditions, injury prevention and emergency care, student issues, and legal/ethical health policies. New Mexico Board of Nursing Multicompact Licensure is required, eligible for certification from the New Mexico Public Education Department and a minimum of two years’ experience, preferably in pediatrics. Work schedule is Sunday –Friday, as well as occasional weekends and/or out of state travel when necessary. As a substitute will be on an as needed basis. Applications accepted until filled.

The New Mexico School for the Blind and Visually Impaired Early Childhood Program is currently recruiting for a RN/LPN Substitute and/or a one day per week (Friday) RN position, in Albuquerque. For the 2025-2026 school year. This position will provide health care services to visually and/or multiply impaired students in an educational pre-school setting. New Mexico Board of Nursing Licensure is required, and must hold or obtain NM Public Education Department licensure; minimum of two years experience, preferably in pediatrics. 9‑month contract. Statewide / Outreach

New Mexico School for the Blind and Visually Impaired Outreach Services Division is currently recruiting for an experienced Teacher of Students with Visual Impairments. This individual will provide mentoring opportunities to interns in the personnel preparation program as well as teachers newly hired to the state. Will act as a liaison between NMSBVI and school districts and as a resource to school districts that are establishing vision departments. Duties will also include student assessment, support to districts in developing and participating in IEP meetings, case load evaluations, and training. Direct services may be assigned as needed. Required to travel within the state. Licensure as a TSVI is required. Itinerant/Mentor also provides training, resources, consultation and support to TSVIs in school districts throughout the state of New Mexico.
This is a 183 day contract and covers the full school year. Must be eligible for certification in New Mexico and must meet NMSBVI’s Braille proficiency requirement. A home office will be set up and a car will be provided. Position available for the 2025-2026 school year. Applications accepted until filled.
